Punjab launches 35 fare-free buses in Multan amid fuel crisis

MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Apr, 2026) The Punjab government on Thursday launched 35 free local buses to facilitate citizens amid the ongoing fuel crisis.

Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan inaugurated the service at General Bus Stand, accompanied by Commissioner Multan Aamir Kareem Khan, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nauman Siddique and other officials.

According to Secretary Regional Transport Authority Mohsin Nisar, all 35 buses will operate from Vehari Chowk to different parts of the city.

The minister said the initiative aims to provide maximum relief to citizens affected by rising fuel prices, adding that the service complements existing free travel facilities under Metro Bus and VEDA transport.

He said the buses will ply on routes including Vehari Chowk to Nishtar Hospital, Suraj Miani and Nadirabad Phattak.

Commissioner Aamir Kareem Khan termed the initiative part of the provincial government’s austerity and fuel conservation drive, calling the launch in the “City of Saints” a major relief measure.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nauman Siddique said additional routes could be introduced if needed.

Citizens welcomed the initiative and appreciated Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for providing relief through free public transport during the petrol crisis.
