Punjab launches wheat procurement campaign with farmer support measures

The Punjab government formally launched its wheat procurement campaign across the province on the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Apr, 2026) The Punjab government formally launched its wheat procurement campaign across the province on the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

According to Secretary Food Safety Punjab Dr. Kiran Khurshid, 44,603 farmers were registered, while the registration process continued uninterrupted at 233 wheat procurement centers.

He said that the government provided wheat grains worth Rs 6 billion to farmers free of cost. Farmers received free wheat grains by visiting their nearest centers and submitting their details along with their identity cards and bank account numbers.

According to Dr. Kiran Khurshid, priority was given to purchasing wheat from small farmers, while the procurement process continued on Sundays and other holidays.

She further said that the amount for the wheat purchased was transferred directly to the farmers’ bank accounts within 72 hours.

The government also ensured the presence of staff from the ‘Special Monitoring Unit’ to address complaints at the procurement centers.
