LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jun, 2026) Punjab Minister for Communication and Works (C&W) Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth on Wednesday visited Murree to review security and administrative arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram.
He directed all departments concerned to ensure coordinated efforts for maintaining peace and order during the holy month, said a handout issued here.
Chairing a meeting at Jinnah Hall, the minister was briefed by the district administration on security measures for Muharram processions, route management and emergency response arrangements. The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Murree Agha Zahir Abbas Shirazi, District Police Officer, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), Chief Traffic Officer and officers of relevant departments.
The DC informed the minister that a comprehensive security plan had been devised for processions and majalis, while CCTV cameras would be utilized for effective monitoring of procession routes. He added that, in accordance with the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, sabeels had also been arranged for participants.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>The minister said all institutions, including the district administration, police, traffic police and civil defence, must further strengthen coordination to ensure a peaceful Muharram. He directed officers to perform their duties with dedication and vigilance to prevent any untoward incident.
Malik Sohaib Bharth said foolproof security arrangements had been put in place across Murree and reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding mourners during Ashura.
Later, he visited various procession routes, including the historic Imambargah Qasr-ul-Imran, Mall Road and Lower Mall Road, to inspect security arrangements on the ground. He said effective measures were being taken to ensure the safety of Ashura processions and warned that no one would be allowed to disrupt peace.
He added that social media was also being closely monitored, while directions had been issued to ensure the provision of clean drinking water for participants throughout the processions.
