Official sources say Punjab government has approached Finance Department for release of Rs24 billion to implement scheme
LAHORE: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-April 13rd, 2026) The Punjab government is set to introduce a major relief package for motorcycle users, proposing a subsidy of Rs100 per litre on petrol to ease the burden of rising fuel costs.
The official sources said that the Punjab government has approached the Finance Department for the release of Rs24 billion to implement the scheme. A formal summary has been submitted for approval, and funds will be released once the Chief Minister gives the go-ahead.
The initiative is expected to benefit approximately 12.5 million bikers across the province, with estimates suggesting that each eligible individual could receive around Rs2,000 per month in fuel support.
Officials from the Excise Department said the subsidy will be provided to registered bikers, and more than 8 million motorcycle owners have already completed the registration process.
Authorities are continuing efforts to expand registrations to ensure maximum coverage.
Data indicates that around 50 million motorcycles have been registered in Punjab since 1980, underlining the importance of two-wheelers as a Primary mode of transport for a large segment of the population.
The government plans to roll out the subsidy after completing the registration and verification process to ensure transparency and proper distribution.
The proposed scheme is part of broader measures aimed at reducing the financial strain on citizens, particularly those from low- and middle-income groups who depend on motorcycles for daily commuting.
