Railways’ ML-1 modernization project close to completion, major track improvements underway: Spokesperson assures

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Apr, 2026) A spokesperson for the Ministry of Railways, Babar Ali Raza, Friday stated that the Pakistan Railways' Main Line-1 (ML-1) project, a critical component of the country’s rail infrastructure upgrade, is progressing into its concluding phase, bringing improvements to track systems and operational performance.

While speaking exclusively to a local media channel, the spokesperson Ali Raza, expressed satisfaction over the steady progress of the Pakistan Railways Main Line-1 (ML-1) project and said it is moving toward completion in a timely

manner.

He noted that the project represents a major step forward in modernizing the country’s rail infrastructure, adding that significant improvements are being made to ensure better safety, speed, and efficiency across the network.

Addressing concerns of public, he assured that issues related to railway tracks and other operational challenges are being actively resolved and will be addressed in the near future as work enters its final phase.

He further emphasized that upon completion, the ML-1 project will play a vital role in strengthening Pakistan Railways’ overall performance and providing improved services to passengers and freight operations across the country.

Responding to a query, he said a Rail Tag system has been launched to ensure real-time tracking of trains and rolling stock, significantly enhancing transparency and operational efficiency, while free Wi-Fi has been made available at major stations and ATM s have been installed to further improve passenger convenience and service delivery.
