KHANEWAL, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd May, 2026) A cheque of Rs. 2.5 million was handed over to the District Press Club Khanewal on behalf of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif during a ceremony held for the oath-taking of newly-elected office-bearers of the press club.
Provincial Parliamentary Secretary for Communications and Works Rana Muhammad Saleem Hanif, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said that the government respects public opinion and is taking effective steps for the welfare of journalists along with ensuring provision of basic facilities and completion of development projects in the region.
He said that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif is giving special attention to journalists’ welfare, adding that media plays a key role in the development and progress of society. He also expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for allocating Rs. 6 billion for development projects and provision of basic facilities in his constituency.
District Police Officer Muhammad Abid appreciated the role of print, social and digital media and reiterated that the police are committed to ensuring justice and protection of life and property for all citizens without discrimination.
Newly elected President of the District Press Club Khanewal, Ahmed Raza Qadri, thanked the government leadership for their support and demanded provision of modern facilities for journalists.
General Secretary Chaudhry Adnan Saeed conducted the proceedings of the ceremony and highlighted the role of journalists in society while pledging better coordination between media, government and administration to resolve public issues.
A large number of journalists, district and police officials, and representatives from political, social, business and religious circles attended the event, which concluded with a formal dinner in honour of the guests.
