A Rs20 million plan to upgrade 24/7 emergency services at Divisional Teaching Hospital Mirpur has been launched, with officials terming it a major step toward strengthening healthcare delivery in Azad Jammu and Kashmir

MIRPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th May, 2026) A Rs20 million plan to upgrade 24/7 emergency services at Divisional Teaching Hospital Mirpur has been launched, with officials terming it a major step toward strengthening healthcare delivery in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Medical Superintendent Prof. Dr. Ijaz Ahmed Raja said the initiative, announced by Prime Minister AJK Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, reflects the government’s commitment to modernizing the health sector. Speaking to local media on Tuesday, he noted that the emergency department’s capacity has already been expanded, with beds increased from 12 to 24 to ensure faster and improved care for incoming patients.

Highlighting further developments, Dr. Ijaz said a proposal has been submitted to upgrade the Kashmir Institute of Cardiology into a full-fledged cardiology hospital.

He added that the institute’s budget has been increased from Rs6 million to Rs60 million, while efforts are underway to operationalize a cath lab with modern bypass and stent facilities to enable advanced cardiac treatment locally.

The hospital administration is also working on strengthening security through construction of a boundary wall and introducing a formal referral system to enhance transparency and accountability. Dr. Ijaz warned that negligence by medical or paramedical staff would not be tolerated, reaffirming his commitment to prioritizing patient care and ensuring improved services for the public.
