KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd Apr, 2026) Governor of Sindh Muhammad Nehal Hashmi said that Pakistan-Russia relations are moving towards a new direction and emphasized that effective implementation of signed memorandums of understanding is the need of the time.
He expressed these views during a meeting with Russian Ambassador Albert P. Khorev at the Governor House, a Governor House communique said.
Russian Consul General in Karachi Andrey Viktorovich Fedorov and other officials were also present on the occasion.
Albert P. Khorev congratulated Governor Sindh Muhammad Nehal Hashmi on assuming office, while both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening Pakistan-Russia relations.
During the meeting, the Russian Ambassador noted that Karachi and Saint Petersburg are sister cities and stressed the importance of enhancing culture, tourism, and educational exchanges between them.
The Russian Ambassador also briefed on modern drone technology used in agriculture and expressed interest in expanding cooperation with Pakistan in this sector. He indicated the revival of Pakistan Steel Mills and stated that Russia is keen to cooperate in infrastructure development, drainage systems, and provision of clean water.
He further said that Russia is willing to extend support in emergency response, civil defense, and other sectors. The Ambassador also shared that the Russian government has tripled the number of scholarships for Pakistani students this year, which will further strengthen educational cooperation.
The Governor of Sindh Muhammad Nehal Hashmi appreciated the proposals of the Russian Ambassador and said that efforts will continue to make bilateral engagement more effective and result-oriented in the future.
