LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th Jun, 2026) Punjab Chief Minister’s Special Assistant for Food Safety Salma Butt has said that ensuring the provision of safe food remains a top priority of the provincial government under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
In her message on World Food Safety Day, observed on Sunday (June 7) across Pakistan and around the world, Salma Butt said that safe food serves as the foundation of a healthy society, a strong economy and a prosperous future.
She said the day is observed to highlight the importance of safe, quality and healthy food while raising public awareness about food safety. According to her, safe food is the cornerstone of a healthy society and provides protection against various diseases.
Salma Butt stated that food safety is not merely a health concern but is also closely linked to social and economic development. She said the Punjab government, under the visionary and people-centric leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, is taking comprehensive measures to ensure the availability of quality, safe and adulteration-free food for citizens.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>She said that through the Punjab Food Authority, strict monitoring of food standards, effective enforcement of food safety laws, modern laboratory testing, capacity building of food businesses and public awareness campaigns are being further strengthened.
The Special Assistant on Food Safety and Consumer Protection said the Punjab government aims to ensure access to safe food for every citizen to safeguard public health and achieve international food safety standards.
She emphasized that hygiene and quality standards must be maintained at every stage of food production, preparation, storage, transportation and sale, adding that the provision of safe food is a shared responsibility of the government, food industry, business establishments and consumers.
On the occasion of World Food Safety Day, Salma Butt urged citizens to pay special attention to quality, cleanliness, packaging and expiry dates when purchasing food items and to buy food products only from reliable sources. She said citizens can contribute to building a healthy, safe and prosperous Punjab by adopting responsible food purchasing practices.
