SDAIA chief reviews AI-powered Makkah Route operations at Jeddah airport

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd May, 2026) President of the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) Dr Abdullah Alghamdi inspected operations of the Makkah Route Initiative terminal at King Abdulaziz International Airport and reviewed the use of artificial intelligence and digital technologies aimed at facilitating Hajj procedures for pilgrims.

According to SPA, Alghamdi said the Makkah Route Initiative has become a unique global model reflecting Saudi Arabia’s leadership in utilizing artificial intelligence technologies to ease pilgrims’ journeys and improve operational efficiency.

The report said the initiative, implemented by the Ministry of Interior in its eighth year, currently operates through 17 entry points across 10 countries in cooperation with several government agencies to process pilgrims in record time.

During the inspection visit, the SDAIA president reviewed operational and technical integration systems that allow pilgrims to complete procedures in their home countries before traveling directly to Makkah upon arrival in Saudi Arabia.

Alghamdi said the initiative reflects the Kingdom’s advanced progress in using data and smart digital solutions to manage the Hajj ecosystem and improve pilgrims’ overall experience.

He added that SDAIA works closely with Hajj-related authorities to develop innovative technological solutions ensuring faster and more accurate travel procedures for pilgrims.

The report said these efforts support the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 and the Pilgrim Experience Program aimed at building an integrated digital system serving pilgrims and Umrah performers throughout the year.
