Secretary agriculture reviews cotton targets

MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd May, 2026) Punjab Secretary Agriculture Iftikhar Ali Sahu chaired a meeting in Multan to review the ongoing cotton cultivation across the province, emphasizing timely measures to boost production.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Vice Chancellor of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Agriculture Multan Prof Dr Asif Ali, Special Secretary Agriculture South Punjab Sarfraz Hussain Magsi, and other key officers and experts, while divisional and district representatives joined in person and via Zoom.

Sahu said the province has set a target of cultivating cotton on 3.2 million acres this year, with around 30% achieved so far.

He directed field formations to educate farmers on modern production techniques to improve per-acre yield.

He assured that sufficient and timely canal water supply is being ensured in cotton-growing areas and ordered strict enforcement of a zero-tolerance policy against adulteration in fertilizers and pesticides.

Following the meeting, Sahu along with Major General (R) Shahid Nazir, visited the Model Agri Mall in Multan. He called for more attractive packages to ensure farmers have easier access to quality agricultural inputs, adding that 10 more such facilities are under construction across Punjab.
