KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Jun, 2026) PPP Sindh General Secretary Senator Waqar Mehdi has expressed concerns over the prolonged and unannounced electricity load-shedding in Karachi and said that K-Electric can no longer be allowed to operate in an unchecked and unaccountable manner.
He said that he would raise a strong voice against the ongoing power crisis in Karachi during the upcoming session of the Senate.
In his statement, the PPP Senator alleged that power outages of up to sixteen hours amid the scorching summer heat have made life unbearable for the citizens of Karachi.
He further said that K-Electric’s exploitative practices have pushed Karachi into a deep crisis. He said that the K-Electric has even become an impediment to the delivery of essential public services, including water supply operations managed by local government institutions.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Senator Waqar Mehdi said that K-Electric is disproportionately targeting low-income and middle-class neighborhoods with excessive load-shedding. He said that the prolonged and frequent power outages are causing immense hardship, frustration, and mental distress among the people of Karachi. He also criticized the absence of an effective and accessible mechanism for addressing consumer complaints, describing it as yet another form of exploitation of electricity consumers.
Senator Mehdi disclosed that he has already moved a motion in the Senate against K-Electric over what he termed the worst-ever unannounced load-shedding and vowed to raise the issue forcefully in the next Senate session.
