LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th May, 2026) National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested seven suspects during crackdowns in Faisalabad and Multan for their alleged involvement in online fraud and extortion by impersonating officials of law enforcement and government institutions
According to an NCCIA spokesperson, the crackdown was conducted on the directions of Director NCCIA Punjab Muhammad Ali Waseem, during which mobile phones and other digital evidence were recovered from the accused.
In Faisalabad, two suspects identified as Muzammal Abbas and Muhammad Akhtar, residents of Lalian, Chiniot, were arrested for allegedly deceiving citizens, particularly InDrive drivers, by posing as army officers or parcel recipients. They reportedly lured drivers into transferring money on various pretexts and then severed contact after receiving the amount.
The spokesperson said the operation was conducted by SHO Faisalabad Circle Inspector Amir Sultan along with his team, while further investigation was underway.
In a separate operation in Multan, five suspects — Raheel Warraich, Ali Warraich, Nadeem Imran, Qadeer Hussain and Burhan Majeed — were arrested for allegedly extorting money from citizens by impersonating police officers.
The suspects reportedly threatened citizens with fake legal action and demanded money. Five mobile phones were recovered from their possession.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of SHO Multan Circle Tahir, and further investigations are in progress, the spokesperson added.
