Sindh CM's aide chairs meeting at PDMA on expected rain arrangements

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Apr, 2026) Sindh Chief Minister's Adviser for the Rehabilitation Department, Gianchand Essarani on Thursday chaired an important meeting at the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) headquarters regarding dealing with potential rains and adverse weather conditions.

During the meeting, a detailed review was conducted of advance preparations, rescue measures, drainage arrangements, and the emergency response system at the district level in anticipation of expected rains across Sindh.

In the meeting, PDMA Director General Syed Salman Shah briefed Adviser to Chief Minister Gianchand Essarani on the expected rains over the next three days, rescue arrangements, the dewatering system, and the measures taken at the district level.

The meeting was attended by Director Admin and Finance Shah Hussain Shah, Director Operations Shayan Shah, and other relevant officers.

The briefing informed that under the current weather system, intermittent rain is expected over the next three days, and the rain situation is being monitored on an hourly basis.

Accordingly, hotspots are being identified, and rescue teams and machinery are being deployed.

The DG PDMA stated that dewatering stations have been established at various sensitive locations in Karachi, and several dewatering pumps of 90 HP and 40 HP have been deployed for drainage.

Machinery and staff are deployed at key locations including Nipa Chorangi, Drug Road Underpass, National Stadium, Qayyumabad, Gul Bai, Native Jetty, KPT Underpass, Submarine Underpass, Sindh Assembly, Tower, Shaheen Complex, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, and 4K Chorangi.

Four rescue vehicles have been deployed near Drug Road Underpass, Qayyumabad, Nursery Shahrah-e-Faisal, and Nazimabad Underpass to maintain traffic flow, while teams from HRF Jamshoro and HRF Sukkur have been kept on standby at the PDMA warehouse.

The DG PDMA further informed that advance instructions have been issued to the Deputy Commissioners of districts expected to be more affected by rains, including Dadu and Qambar Shahdadkot, to ensure complete arrangements in view of the possibility of heavy rainfall.

Addressing the meeting, Adviser to Chief Minister Gianchand Essarani directed that a comprehensive strategy regarding rains be implemented and a detailed report be submitted so that a strategy can be formulated for further improvement in the future.

Essarani stated that the government, following the instructions of the Chief Minister of Sindh, is fully prepared to deal with any emergency situation, and all institutions are working under a coordinated system.

He directed that field officers should continuously monitor, keep the drainage system active, and ensure the provision of immediate relief to the public.

The meeting instructed relevant authorities to ensure the timely deployment of machinery, dewatering pumps, and rescue teams in urban areas, especially low-lying areas, so that immediate action can be taken in any emergency situation.
