Social media monitoring cell established in Chiniot ahead of Muharram

CHINIOT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th May, 2026) The district administration has established a dedicated social media monitoring cell to help maintain peace and harmony during Muharram and prevent the spread of sectarian hatred through online platforms.

District Police Officer Dr. Naveed Atif while exclusively talking to APP on Saturday, said that comprehensive security and monitoring measures were being implemented across the district to ensure a peaceful observance of Muharram. He noted that certain elements attempt to exploit social media during sensitive occasions by sharing inflammatory and hateful content aimed at creating religious discord.

The DPO said the newly established monitoring cell would keep a close watch on social media platforms to identify and track content promoting sectarianism, hatred, or religious intolerance.

He warned that strict legal action would be taken against individuals found involved in disseminating such material.

Dr. Naveed Atif urged citizens to promote unity, mutual respect, and religious harmony by exercising responsibility on social media. He emphasized that sharing hate speech and provocative content is a punishable offense under the law and appealed to the public to avoid posting or forwarding any material that could disturb peace or create religious unrest in society.
