Strict action ordered against quack doctors in Larkana district: DC

LARKANA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th May, 2026) A high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Larkana, Tariq Manzoor Chandio, regarding the campaign against quack doctors in the district.

The meeting took place at the DC Office Larkana on Monday.

The meeting was attended by District Health Officer Larkana Dr. Shoukat Abro, Deputy Director Sindh Healthcare Commission Larkana Dr. Mujahid Hussain, Assistant Director SHCC Imtiaz Ali Memon, Assistant Director SHCC Adeel Sajid, Assistant Commissioner Larkana Raja Qureshi, and DAOC Dr. Rawal.

Officials from the Sindh Healthcare Commission and the Health Department briefed the Deputy Commissioner on the current situation of quackery in the district. They reported that a large number of suspected quacks have been identified.

Deputy Commissioner Tariq Manzoor Chandio taking serious notice of the situation issued following directives to District Health Officer Larkana and Healthcare Commission.

1) to keep check on medical stores which dispenses medicines without proper prescriptions, leading to self-medication and counterfeit drugs; 2) operation against individuals with low medical qualifications, such as dispensers and lady health workers, who have illegally opened clinics and are administering medications.

DHO Larkana Dr. Shoukat Abro stated that unhygienic and unregulated clinics are causing serious health complications. He cited a recent case where a child died due to complications arising from treatment by an unqualified practitione.

There is a growing trend of unregistered medical stores in the district, often involved in selling counterfeit and substandard medicines.

Deputy Commissioner ordered to launch an immediate district-wide crackdown against all quacks and unqualified medical practitioners and seal clinics run by unqualified individuals.

He ordered to take strict legal action against unhygienic hospitals and clinics, especially those not disposing of medical waste according to SEPA and SHCC guidelines.

He ordered to seal unregistered medical stores and initiate action against those selling medicines without a prescription or dealing in counterfeit drugs.

He directed to ensure that all qualified doctors to display their valid PMDC registration numbers at their clinics and to conduct a comprehensive survey of pharmacies, medical stores, and private clinics.

The Deputy Commissioner appointed DHO Larkana Dr. Shoukat Abro as the focal person for the campaign against quackery who will coordinate with SHCC and the police and submit weekly reports of actions taken, sealed premises, and registered FIRs to the DC Office.

DC Larkana stated that quackery is a serious threat to public health and human lives cannot be put at risk.

He assured that the district administration, health department, and SHCC would work together to eradicate quackery from Larkana.

He appealed to citizens to only consult qualified doctors and report quackery to the SHCC helpline.
