KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th May, 2026) Sindh Government Spokesperson Sukhdev Hemnani on Thursday called for a stronger and more consistent national push towards renewable energy, stating that Pakistan’s long-term energy security depends on stable policies, expanded solar adoption, and sustained support for renewable energy consumers.

In a statement, Sindh Govt spokesperson said that amid rising electricity costs and increasing energy demand, all tiers of government must ensure predictable and consumer-friendly renewable energy policies to strengthen investor confidence and accelerate the transition towards clean and affordable energy.

Highlighting Sindh’s ongoing clean energy initiatives, Hemnani said the Sindh Government was distributing solar home systems to 500,000 low-income households under the Sindh Solar Energy Project, significantly expanding access to affordable electricity across underserved communities.

He further stated that solar energy systems are also being integrated into 2.1 million homes under the Sindh Peoples Housing for Flood Affectees (SPHF) programme, making it one of the region’s largest climate-responsive housing and clean energy initiatives.

Hemnani noted that under the leadership of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, a 50 percent reduction in solar taxation was secured in the last Federal budget, providing major relief to consumers and encouraging wider solar energy adoption across the country.

He said renewable energy policy consistency is essential to sustain this momentum, warning that uncertainty surrounding net metering and related frameworks could discourage investment and slow down the rapid growth of distributed solar energy systems.

“Sindh is proving that renewable energy is not merely a future objective but a practical and scalable reality,” Hemnani said. “Clean energy must be encouraged through stable policies and long-term incentives, as this remains the most sustainable path towards energy security and economic resilience.”

He added that Sindh continues to expand its renewable energy footprint through major wind power projects in the Jhimpir-Gharo corridor, while also utilising indigenous energy resources through Thar coal projects to maintain a diversified and resilient energy mix.

Hemnani stated that renewable energy consumers are helping reduce pressure on the national grid and contributing towards a more decentralised and efficient power system. He stressed that future policy frameworks should strengthen incentives for solar consumers, ensure continuity in net metering policies, and support wider adoption of renewable energy technologies.

He urged that upcoming budgetary measures should prioritise renewable energy consumers and reinforce Pakistan’s transition towards clean, affordable, and sustainable energy solutions.

He reiterated that under the leadership of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, the Government of Sindh remains committed to climate-responsive governance, renewable energy expansion, and long-term energy sustainability.
