Swimming banned in rivers, canals across Hyderabad division for 30 days

HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Mar, 2026) Commissioner Hyderabad Division Fayyaz Hussain Abbasi has imposed a ban on bathing and swimming in rivers, canals and other water bodies across the division.

According to an official handout, deputy commissioners had recommended the restriction in view of recent rains and the upcoming Eid holidays, which are expected to increase public gatherings at picnic and recreational spots. In the past, several accidents and loss of precious lives have occurred due to unsafe swimming practices at such places.

Taking these recommendations into account, the commissioner has enforced a complete ban under Section 144 for a period of 30 days. The restriction covers all picnic points along the Indus River as well as canals, lakes, streams and other waterways within the Hyderabad Division.

Authorities have warned that strict legal action will be taken against violators under relevant sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), while police officers have also been empowered to register cases against those defying the ban.
