Traders laud Sindh Police efforts to improve law and order

KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th May, 2026) Inspector General of Police Sindh Javed Alam Odho visited the head office of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), where members of the business community praised the police for improving law and order, particularly in riverine areas and along highways in Sindh.

The IGP was warmly received by FPCCI Senior Vice President Saqib Magsi and other office-bearers upon his arrival at the federation’s headquarters.

The ceremony was attended by FPCCI Patron-in-Chief SM Tanveer, Abdul Momin Khan, Arif Sakhi, Aman Paracha, Ikram Rajput, Hanif Gohar, Mian Zahid, Khalid Amin, Khalid Tawab, representatives of traders’ organisations from different cities, women entrepreneurs, DIG Traffic Karachi, SSP South and SSP Media and Public Relations.

Business leaders from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also attended the event.

During the ceremony, traders and industrialists paid tribute to the Sindh Police and the provincial government for measures aimed at restoring peace in the province, especially in the katcha areas, and congratulated Javed Alam Odho on receiving the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz.

Members of the business community expressed confidence in the government’s efforts against crime and said highways in Sindh had become significantly safer following operations against dacoit networks in riverine areas.

Addressing the gathering, Javed Alam Odho thanked the business community for its support and said peace and stability were essential for economic and industrial growth.

He said the improvement in law and order, particularly in katcha areas, was the result of the collective efforts and sacrifices of officers and personnel of Sindh Police.

The IGP said the police had successfully cleared riverine areas of kidnappers and extortion gangs, while highways surrounding those areas had been fully secured to ensure safe travel for traders and the public.

Referring to “Operation Nijat-e-Mehran”, he said the crackdown had dismantled criminal networks operating in the region.

Javed Alam Odho also said street crime in Karachi had declined considerably due to modern policing measures, including the installation of smart surveillance systems and cameras under the Safe City project.

He added that more than 40,000 cameras had been installed in Karachi with the cooperation of the business community, significantly improving crime detection.

Speaking about anti-narcotics efforts, the IGP said more than 1,700 criminals involved in drug-related offences had been arrested during ongoing operations.

He said a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics and organized crime was being implemented with the cooperation of the Anti Narcotics Force and other law enforcement agencies.

The IGP further said rehabilitation centres for drug addicts would be established by the Sindh government, adding that students affected by drug abuse would be prioritised for treatment and rehabilitation rather than punitive action.

He also stressed the need for reforms in policing, including improved police station culture, enhanced electronic surveillance systems and the promotion of professional and educated officers within the police force.

At the conclusion of the event, Javed Alam Odho distributed certificates among trader focal persons.
