Twin cities to adopt joint strategy against dengue, polio

RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Mar, 2026) The administrations of Rawalpindi and Islamabad have decided to adopt a coordinated strategy to prevent dengue and polio, with authorities reviewing preparations for the upcoming anti-polio campaign scheduled from April 13 to 16.

The decision was taken at a meeting held here on Saturday, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheema and attended by officials from both cities.

During the briefing, officials presented details of pre-campaign activities and ongoing field operations aimed at ensuring full coverage during the polio drive.

The deputy commissioner directed authorities to accelerate indoor and outdoor dengue surveillance and ensure that no area remained uncovered, stressing the need for effective door-to-door outreach.

He ordered strict monitoring of service stations, tyre shops and other identified hotspots, and directed teams to continue vigorous operations to eliminate dengue larvae.

Dr. Waqar emphasised the importance of involving students in volunteer campaigns to enhance public awareness, adding that awareness drives in streets and neighbourhoods should be strengthened through better visibility of field teams, including the provision of special jackets.

He also directed Deputy District Health Officers (DDHOs) to maintain close coordination with elected public representatives to improve the implementation of preventive measures.
