KAGHAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Apr, 2026) Two siblings, identified as Fatima Bibi (6) and Sameer (8) were swept into the Kunhar River in the Kandera area near Kaghan on Wednesday.
According to local residents, the children were on their way to their grandmother’s house when Fatima Bibi accidentally slipped into a deep ditch leading to the river. In an attempt to save her, her brother Sameer also fell, and both were carried away by the strong currents.
The Rescue Control Room following the alert, District Emergency Officer Abrar Ali directed immediate action, and water rescue teams from Balakot and Mansehra were dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, rescue personnel initiated a full-scale search and rescue operation, which is still ongoing under the supervision of district authorities. Despite continuous efforts, the children have not yet been recovered.
Officials have urged the public to exercise extreme caution near riverbanks, particularly in hazardous areas, and to keep a close watch on children to prevent such tragic incidents. Rescue spokesperson confirmed that search efforts are continuing.
