KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Apr, 2026) The Representative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Pakistan, Fuad Pashayev visited the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Raza Shah, Director of ICCBS, University of Karachi, and UNESCO Chair holder, warmly welcomed the UNESCO official to the center, said a spokesperson on Thursday.
During the meeting, Pashayev and the ICCBS Director discussed matters related to the UNESCO Chair on Medicinal and Bio-Organic Natural Product Chemistry at ICCBS.
He expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to visit the institution and lauded the state-of-the-art research facilities available at the center.
Earlier, Prof.
Raza Shah presented a detailed overview of the establishment, growth, and contributions of ICCBS in the fields of molecular medicine, drug research, and forensic science.
Speaking about the UNESCO Chair, he said that it promotes international inter-university cooperation and networking to enhance institutional capacity through knowledge sharing and collaborative research.
He further noted that this international UNESCO Chair in Medicinal and Bio-Organic Natural Product Chemistry would help Pakistan emerge as a center of excellence in this important research area, particularly in addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The visit concluded with a reaffirmation of the UNESCO representative’s commitment to strengthening scientific collaboration and capacity building.
