MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Apr, 2026) Punjab Food Authority (PFA) intensified its crackdown on substandard food practices across Multan and Khanewal, conducting inspections at prominent restaurants, soda water plants, and food outlets. The operations resulted in heavy fines and the disposal of unsafe food items.
Acting on the special directives of Director General Syed Musa Raza, PFA teams inspected several well-known eateries in Multan. Violations included the use of recycled (rancid) oil, presence of harmful spices, poor kitchen hygiene, and absence of mandatory medical certificates for workers. Authorities imposed cumulative fines amounting to Rs125,000 during inspections carried out in areas such as Mall of Multan, Chowk Lakri Mandi, and Tariq road.
During the operations, officials also discarded 20 liters of reused oil, 10 kilograms of unhealthy spices, and 15 liters of substandard beverages.
In Khanewal, a water filtration plant located in Fazal Colony near Masjid Bahar-e-Madina was fined Rs7,000 due to low Brix levels and the presence of insects in the processing area. Additionally, two food outlets near Stadium Road and Tehsil Chowk were fined Rs32,000 for violations including dead insects found in ghee containers, improper storage of food items in freezers, and failure to cover food in kitchen areas.
Further action was taken at Farooq Azam Chowk, where an ice cream shop was fined Rs20,000 for selling unlabeled products and failing to maintain purchase and sales records.
Speaking on the occasion, DG PFA Syed Musa Raza reiterated that no compromise would be made on public health. He urged citizens to report complaints via the PFA helpline (1223).
