WAF demands fair investigation in medical student suicide case

HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Apr, 2026) The Women Action Forum (WAF) has expressed sadness over alleged suicide of a 3rd year medical student of a private college in Mirpurkhas, demanding action against culprits allegedly involved in her harassment and blackmail.

In a statement issued here on Saturday evening, the WAF Hyderabad chapter deplored that the suicide by Fahmeeda Laghari in Mirpurkhas indicated that harassment of female students existed in the educational institutions.

The WAF demanded a transparent inquiry into the incident, followed by the arrest and conviction of the persons charged with harassment and blackmail, in an FIR lodged at the Satellite Town police station in Mirpurkhas district on April 9.

The forum also called for setting up anti-harassment committees in educational institutions and for policy-level decisions to curb such incidents. The WAF also sought justice for the family of the deceased student.
