THANDYANI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Apr, 2026) As winter loosens its grip on the snow-clad hills of Thandyani, a different kind of warmth is taking over—one powered not just by clouds-sunshine interplay, but by smartphones.
Families stroll along pine-lined trails, children laugh on swings, and young tourists pause mid-hike not just to admire the sweeping awesome views of Mukeshpuri and Miranjani but to capture them for Instagram and Facebook.
From the lush valleys of Nathiagali to the forest trails of Ayubia National Park, tourists, trekkers and adventure sports enthusiasts returned in droves on weekend. Horse rides, chairlifts, and colonial-era walking tracks are once again buzzing with tourism activity during spring.
But what’s changed is how these joyous experiences are shared. “Its a time of digital tourism,” says Faraz Fayaz, a visitor from Nowshera, smiling as he frames a selfie against snow-clads peaks. “A single short video can show the world what we have amazing tourism wealth here.”
With every tourism post on social platforms, KP’s hidden gems from Kumrat Valley to Malam Jabba, Kalam to Malam Jabba and Murree to Thandyani are gaining global visibility.
Yet, the surge in ecotourism and adventure sports has brought growing pains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to high charges by hoteliers.
Hotels in hotspots like Nathiagali and Ayubia are charging steep rates, often beyond the reach of middle-income families and domestic tourists. For many visitors, the beauty of the mountains comes at an unexpected cost.
“There should be checks,” says another tourist, Khayam Khan, who visits the region every spring. “Otherwise, people may stop coming here and will visit Swat where hotels charges are less compare to Nathiagali and Thandyani.
”
Despite the concerns, the local economy is thriving at Galiyat. Seasonal photographers, guides, and horse handlers line the trails, turning scenic backdrops into livelihoods.
To counter rising costs and modernize tourism, the KP government is stepping in and launched several initiatives for tourism boosts.
Besides interest free loans to communities of tourism areas for construction of rooms for stay of tourists, affordable camping pods have been introduced in scenic locations like Sharan and Gabeen Jabba. These eco-friendly units offer basic comforts at a fraction of hotel prices making nature more accessible.
At the same time, technology is enhancing safety. The tourist safety app allows travelers to quickly contact tourist police, while improved road networks and security presence have boosted confidence among visitors.
Beyond the popular Galiyat belt, KP’s tourism map is expanding rapidly. From the alpine beauty of Babusar Top to the remote charm of Chitral, the province offers a rare blend of adventure, culture, and serenity.
Officials say the goal is clear to position KP as a global ecotourism hub. New roads, restored hiking tracks, and a dedicated tourist police force are part of a broader push to reshape the region’s image from a once-overlooked destination to a must-visit experience.
Back in Thandyani, as the sun dips behind the mountains, the glow of phone screens rivals the fading daylight. Tourists scroll through photos, upload reels, and tag locations unknowingly becoming ambassadors of a new tourism era.
Here, in the quiet embrace of the hills, a powerful transformation is underway. The mountains are no longer just a destination. They are a story—streamed, shared, and seen by the world.
