Workers backbone of economy; says Governor

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st May, 2026) Governor Khyber Pakhtunwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Friday said that workers played a vital role in the economic development of any country and served as the backbone of the economy.

In his message on International Labour Day, the Governor paid tribute to labourers and said the day reminded the world of the sacrifices rendered by workers who laid down their lives for the protection and attainment of labour rights.

He said that the rights being enjoyed by workers at the global level today were the result of their long struggle and sacrifices.

Faisal Karim Kundi said islam had laid special emphasis on the protection of workers’ rights and termed earning lawful livelihood a respected act.

He said Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad PBUP had also stressed timely payment of wages and directed that labourers should be paid before their sweat dries.

The Governor said by following Islamic principles, not only the problems of workers could be resolved but their sense of deprivation could also be addressed effectively.

He said Pakistan Peoples Party had always raised voice for the rights of labourers as sustainable development and prosperity could not be achieved without ensuring protection of the working class.
