WAH CANTT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd May, 2026) A hybrid workshop on Sunday, titled “Disrupting Pakistani Healthcare through Accountable AI: A Socially Grounded Intervention Framework” was jointly organized by the University of Wah, Quaid-i-Azam University, and Birmingham City University to explore the responsible integration of artificial intelligence in Pakistan’s healthcare system.
The event brought together academics, clinicians, and technology experts to discuss how AI can be applied effectively while remaining aligned with local social and healthcare realities. Key academic contributions were made by Prof Dr Muhammad Rizwan, Prof Dr Atif Azad, and Prof Dr Muhammad Zaman, with organizational support from Prof Conor Ryan and Prof Dr Junaid Arshad.
The first session focused on real-world challenges in adopting AI in healthcare, including structural gaps, limited digital infrastructure, and behavioural factors affecting technology use.
Medical professionals from institutions such as Aga Khan University, Shifa International Hospital, and HBS Medical and Dental College emphasized the need for stronger local capacity, improved health data systems, and coordinated policy frameworks.
The second session addressed ethical and technical aspects of developing trustworthy AI systems in medicine. Experts from Ayub Medical College Abbottabad highlighted the importance of designing AI solutions that are transparent, reliable, and suited to existing healthcare limitations.
Organizers said the workshop stood out for its practical approach, encouraging participants to propose AI-based solutions tailored to Pakistan’s healthcare constraints rather than theoretical models alone.
