Young boy drowns in Kohat pond despite swimming ban

KOHAT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Jul, 2026) A young boy drowned after falling into a pond in the Rasi Qasaba area of Kohat on Saturday, prompting a rescue operation by emergency responders.

The victim was identified as Muhammad Abdul Mateen, son of Abid Hussain and a resident of Shakardara. Rescue 1122 teams were dispatched to the scene shortly after the incident and carried out a recovery operation.

The tragedy comes days after the Kohat district administration imposed a three-month ban on swimming and boating in major water bodies, including dams, rivers, canals and rainwater ponds, under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (Cr.P.C.), citing concerns over rising drowning incidents during the summer.

Authorities have urged the public to comply with the restrictions and avoid entering prohibited water bodies to help prevent further loss of life.
