17-year-old tourist drowns at Khanpur Dam; rescue team recovers body

KHANPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Jun, 2026) A 17-year-old tourist from Murree drowned while swimming in Khanpur Dam on Saturday. Rescue 1122 divers recovered the body within 15 minutes of launching a search operation.

According to Rescue 1122 Haripur, the victim, identified as Sharjeel, had arrived at Khanpur Dam with his friends for a recreational trip when he drowned while bathing in the reservoir.

On the directives of District Emergency Officer Zahir Mian, a Rescue 1122 diving team from Station 22 (Khanpur) rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the emergency call and launched a search operation.

The rescue team recovered the body after a 15-minute operation and shifted it to Type D Hospital, where doctors confirmed the teenager's death.

Rescue 1122 urged visitors to exercise extreme caution while swimming in dams, lakes, and other open water bodies to prevent such tragic incidents.
