ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Apr, 2026) Deputy Chief Manager at SPARCO, Shahneela Tariq, said on Friday that Pakistan is all set to launch a historic lunar mission in 2026, describing it as a bold leap into the future and a defining moment in the nation’s journey into space, a milestone that is providing exciting new opportunities for young engineers and inspiring a new generation to reach for the stars.

While speaking exclusively with a local media outlet, she said the Moon mission is being developed through close Pakistan–China cooperation, bringing together advanced technical expertise and a shared long-term vision.

She emphasized that this strategic partnership is driving Pakistan into a new era of space exploration, far beyond its earlier satellite achievements.

She further noted that the collaboration has significantly accelerated the country’s progress, enabling it to take on more ambitious and complex missions, adding that by combining resources, innovation and experience, both nations are pushing the boundaries of what Pakistan can achieve in space.

If successful, she added, the mission will mark Pakistan’s first-ever attempt to reach the Moon a historic breakthrough that could redefine the nation’s place in the global space community and ignite new inspiration for future generations.

She further mentioned, while responding to a query, that after more than 50 years, astronauts aboard NASA missions were once again travelling toward the Moon, calling it a remarkable moment in human space exploration.

She noted that such missions reflect how far technology and global ambition have advanced over the

decades.

Referring to the journey, she highlighted that a major engine firing successfully placed the Orion capsule on its planned trajectory for a lunar flyby, describing it as a powerful demonstration of precision, innovation and engineering excellence.

She appreciated how this milestone has reignited global interest in deep space exploration.

She added that this first crewed mission around the Moon in over half a century marks a historic breakthrough, praising it as an inspiring achievement for the entire world.

According to her, such progress not only showcases human capability but also motivates emerging space nations like Pakistan to pursue their own bold missions.
