5.7 magnitude earthquake jolts Islamabad and KP

The earthquake tremors were felt at 11:46 PM Pakistan Standard Time.

Strong earthquake tremors were felt in Islamabad and several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa sparking fear and panic among residents.

According to details the tremors were felt in Islamabad, Murree, Abbottabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and Swat.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department reported that the earthquake measured 5.7 on the Richter scale with a depth of around 170 kilometres. The epicentre was located in the border region of Tajikistan.

The tremors were felt at 11:46 pm Pakistan Standard Time prompting people to rush out of homes and offices in panic.

Meanwhile rescue officials said no loss of life or property has been reported so far although emergency teams have been placed on alert.
