5.7-magnitude earthquake strikes off Greek island of Crete

CRETE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 24th Apr, 2026) A significant earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale struck the sea region off the coast of eastern Crete, Greece.

The tremor, which occurred at approximately 6:18 a.m. local time, was centred roughly 11–28 kilometres (6.8 miles to 17.3 miles) southeast of Ierapetra.

Due to its shallow depth, the earthquake was widely felt across the island, particularly in the Lasithi and Heraklion regions.
