Acting President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Chaudhry Latif Akbar, on Wednesday strongly condemned the sentencing of prominent Kashmiri rights activists, describing it as political revenge by New Delhi

MIRPUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Mar, 2026) Acting President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Chaudhry Latif Akbar, on Wednesday strongly condemned the sentencing of prominent Kashmiri rights activists, describing it as political revenge by New Delhi. He criticized the life imprisonment awarded to Asiya Andrabi and the 30-year sentences imposed on her two associates as a blatant miscarriage of justice.

Chaudhry Latif Akbar stated that Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control categorically reject the decision of the Delhi court and its investigating agency, the NIA, while emphasizing that the ruling completely negates the principles of justice. He denounced the use of black laws to suppress the Hurriyat leadership in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) as absolutely unacceptable.

Moreover, the acting president described India’s legal measures as violating fundamental human rights, therefore calling on the international community to take urgent notice of the atrocities in IIOJK. He highlighted that the convictions of Andrabi and her associates represent part of a broader attempt to silence the voices of Kashmiris striving for freedom.

Chaudhry Latif Akbar urged human rights organizations and the international community to contribute toward the immediate release of Asiya Andrabi and other Kashmiri leaders, emphasizing that the people’s long-cherished right to self-determination, as recognized by United Nations resolutions, cannot be suppressed through oppression and political coercion.
