AJK begins preparations for Eid-ul-Adha celebrations

MIRPUR (AJK) , (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point news - 14th May, 2026) The preparations are underway across Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to observe Eid-ul-Azha with religious devotion and traditional enthusiasm, expected to fall on May 27 subject to the sighting of the Zilhaj moon.

According to official sources, the AJK government is likely to announce a four-day public holiday for the Eid festivities across the region.

The special prayers will be offered at mosques and designated Eid congregations for peace, stability, unity of the Muslim world, and the progress and prosperity of Pakistan and AJK.

The Eid-ul-Azha prayers will be held in all major cities and towns across the ten districts of the region, including Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Kotli, Bhimbher, Bagh, Sudhanoti, Rawalakot, Havaili, Neelum Valley, and Jhelum Valley.

The main congregation in Muzaffarabad will take place at the central Eidgah, where a large number of worshippers are expected to attend.

The religious scholars and clerics will deliver sermons highlighting the significance of the eid and the spirit of sacrifice associated with the occasion.

The worshippers are also expected to offer special prayers for Muslims in conflict-affected regions and express solidarity with people in various parts of the Muslim world.

Following the Eid prayers, the residents will perform ritual animal sacrifices in accordance with Islamic tradition, commemorating the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (AS).

Meanwhile, the authorities have made security arrangements at mosques, Eidgahs, and other congregational sites to ensure peaceful Eid celebrations across the region.
