LODHRAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Apr, 2026) The Environment Protection Department organised an awareness seminar and held a press conference in the main bazaar, Mini Market, to inform shopkeepers, public and others concerned about the ban on plastic shopping bags.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ashraf attended the event along with Deputy Director Environment Dr Munazza Naseem and representatives of the trader association.

Addressing the participants, the deputy commissioner stated that excessive use of plastic bags was contributing to the spread of various diseases and poses a serious threat to public health. He reiterated that, under the government orders, there was a complete ban on the use of plastic bags thinner than 75 microns and smaller than 12×16 inches.

He warned that harmful plastic was gradually becoming part of the food chain.

He said that they have to avert our generations from serious illnesses such as asthma, cancer, hepatitis and other diseases.

Muhammad Ashraf stressed that the success of the “Plastic-Free Lodhran” campaign couldn't be made successful without the cooperation of citizens and traders. “If we fail to act now, future generations will not forgive us,” he remarked.

He urged all stakeholders to play their role in ensuring a safe and healthy environment.

During the event, the deputy commissioner also held discussions with local traders, who assured their full support for the plastic-free initiative.
