Chairman SLA Dr Sher Mehrani meets AIOU Official to boost language technology collaboration

Chairman of the Sindhi Language Authority (SLA) Dr Sher Mehrani met with the Director of the Center for Languages and Translations Studies, Dr Ghulam Ali, at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) in Islamabad

HYDERABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Apr, 2026) Chairman of the Sindhi Language Authority (SLA) Dr Sher Mehrani met with the Director of the Center for Languages and Translations Studies, Dr Ghulam Ali, at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) in Islamabad.

According to SLA spokesman Saleem Jarwar, matters of mutual interest were discussed during the meeting. On the occasion, Dr Ghulam Ali informed the guest about the initiatives of his institution, stating that several new features in the urdu language had been introduced through the AI-based platform “Grammora AI.” He emphasized that all regional languages should be promoted through artificial intelligence, adding that neglecting any language in the AI era would be equivalent to doing an injustice to it.

Dr Sher Mehrani said that significant work was being carried out on modern technological fronts in the Sindhi language, adding that Sindhi possesses the capability to move alongside developed languages of the world.

He noted that agreements had already been signed with various institutions in this regard.

He further stressed the need to provide opportunities to youth so they could utilize their abilities and skills to bring innovation to institutions.

During the visit, Dr Mehrani was also taken to the language laboratory, where he met with experts. He was informed that at least 12 young professionals, including five Sindhi youths, were working in the lab.

On the occasion, Dr Ghulam Ali presented an encyclopedia prepared for translation purposes to Dr Mehrani as a gift.

A Faculty member of the Department of Pakistani Languages at Allama Iqbal Open University, Dr Hakim Buriro and Akhtar Ali Qazi, a lecturer from National University of Modern Languages pursuing a PhD in artificial intelligence, were also present on the occasion.
