MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Apr, 2026) Pakistan’s legendary comedian and actor Munawar Zarif was a man whose wit, timing and effortless screen presence made him one of the brightest stars of Lollywood.
In connection with the late artist's 50th anniversary, veteran actor Nayyar Ejaz told APP on Wednesday that Munawar Zarif remains widely known as Shehenshah-e-Zarafat — the King of Humour.
Born in Gujranwala, Munawar entered films in the early 1960s and quickly rose to fame through his unmatched comic style and spontaneous dialogue delivery. He appeared in more than 300 films during a short but extraordinary career. His breakthrough came with 'Hath Jori', while later hits such as 'Banarsi Thug', 'Jeera Blade', 'Pardey Mein Rehnay Do' and the evergreen classic 'Naukar Wohti Da' turned him into a household name.
Nayyar said that what made Munawar Zarif special was not only his humour but his ability to dominate every scene with natural charm.
Nayyar Ejaz remarked that a talent as brilliant as Munawar Zarif may never be born again, praising his rare gift for improvisation. He recalled how Munawar could spark laughter instantly without relying heavily on scripted lines — a natural brilliance that became his trademark and inspired generations of performers.
Despite earning widespread fame and three Nigar Awards, Munawar Zarif was remembered by colleagues as humble, warm-hearted, and deeply professional. He carried no trace of star attitude and was equally admired by technicians, writers, and co-stars.
Fifty years after his passing, Pakistani cinema continues to celebrate a man who elevated comedy into a true art form. His films still entertain new audiences, proving that genuine talent never fades. Though Munawar Zarif left the world far too early — passing away on April 29, 1976 — his laughter remains timeless, echoing through the history of Pakistani cinema.
