BAHAWALPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Jun, 2026) A meeting to review development affairs across Bahawalpur Division was held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Irfan Ali Kathia.

The session focused on the progress of ongoing development projects, improvements to public buildings, and measures for the secure preservation and management of official records.

Addressing the meeting, Commissioner Irfan Ali Kathia directed the concerned departments to undertake the reconstruction of the division’s Muhafiz Khana (Record Repository/Record Room) and transform it into a modern facility equipped to meet contemporary record management requirements. He emphasized that government records constitute a valuable national asset and that their preservation through modern infrastructure and management systems is essential for ensuring administrative efficiency, transparency, and institutional continuity.

The Commissioner instructed officials to prepare a comprehensive plan for the construction of the new facility, incorporating modern record management systems, secure storage arrangements, fire protection mechanisms, and safeguards against humidity and other environmental factors that could damage important documents. He stressed that the new repository should be designed to ensure the long-term preservation, organization, and accessibility of official records while meeting modern standards of archival management.

During the briefing, participants were informed that the existing record room is currently housed in an old and deteriorating building adjacent to the Assistant Commissioner Bahawalpur City Office. Officials noted that the current structure no longer meets modern requirements and presents challenges for the safe preservation and efficient management of government records. Given these limitations, the construction of a new purpose-built facility was described as an urgent necessity to ensure the protection and proper maintenance of official documentation.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Shagufta Jabeen, Director Development Ismat Ullah, Deputy Director Technical Waqas Muhammad Din, and other relevant officials, who also briefed the Commissioner on the progress of various development projects underway across the division.

Commissioner Kathia directed all departments to maintain momentum on ongoing development initiatives while ensuring quality standards, timely completion, and effective utilization of public resources. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to modernizing public infrastructure and strengthening institutional capacity across Bahawalpur Division.
