MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Apr, 2026) Commissioner Multan Division Amir Kareem Khan visited flood-affected areas of Jalalpur Pirwala to review progress on under-construction permanent flood protection embankments.

During the visit, the Commissioner was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Nouman Siddique, Assistant Commissioner Mukarram Sahoo, and officials from the Irrigation department. He was briefed on ongoing construction work at multiple sites, including the Balochwah flood embankment.

Officials informed that the embankments were being constructed as permanent structures to protect areas impacted by last year’s floods. The Balochwah embankment will stretch approximately 7 kilometers and will be connected to the Gilani Expressway. Additionally, construction was underway at Nooraja Bhatta, where another key embankment project is in progress.

According to the briefing, the embankment under the Jalalpur Pirwala flood protection project will have a base width of around 110 feet and a top width of 25 feet, with a height of up to 9 feet.

The structure will undergo proper compaction using modern engineering techniques to ensure durability against flood pressure.

Authorities further stated that soil was being sourced locally, and advanced methods were being applied to enhance structural strength. Technical issues related to the 13-kilometer-long Nooraja Bhatta embankment have also been resolved, and work was expected to be completed within the stipulated timeframe.

Commissioner also reviewed matters related to the Mines and Minerals department and directed concerned officials to resolve any outstanding issues promptly to avoid delay in construction.

He emphasized that all flood protection projects must be completed before July 31 to effectively deal with the expected monsoon rains and flood situations. He added that the initiatives would play a vital role in protecting lives, property, and agricultural land while reducing future flood-related damages.
