Electric green bus service launched in Khanewal

KHANEWAL, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Jul, 2026) Under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Electric Green Bus service has officially been launched in district Khanewal.

Deputy Commissioner Maliha Rashid, accompanied by parliamentarians, inaugurated the service.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Member of the National Assembly Muhammad Khan Daha, Provincial Parliamentary Secretary Rana Muhammad Saleem Hanif, Members of the Provincial Assembly Asghar Hayat Hiraj and Chaudhry Zia-ur-Rehman, along with government officials, media representatives, and a large number of distinguished citizens.

In the first phase, nine modern electric green buses will operate on the Khanewal, Kabirwala, and Jahanian routes. Additionally, 84 passenger waiting shelters have been established along the Kabirwala and Jahanian routes to facilitate commuters.

The state-of-the-art electric buses were equipped with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, CCTV cameras, a modern tracking system, comfortable seating, and other passenger-friendly amenities. The project aimed to provide safe, affordable, comfortable, and environmentally friendly transportation while contributing to reduced air pollution.

Speaking on the occasion, MNA Muhammad Khan Daha, said that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif was taking practical steps to provide modern, high-quality public transport facilities to the people. He termed the Electric Green Bus Service a valuable gift for the citizens of Khanewal that will improve mobility and help protect the environment.

Deputy Commissioner Maliha Rashid stated that, in line with the vision of the Government of Punjab, the district administration was committed to provide the best possible transport facilities to the public.

She said the service would offer safe, comfortable, and economical travel, while the newly established waiting shelters would further enhance passenger convenience.

Provincial Parliamentary Secretary Rana Muhammad Saleem Hanif and Members of the Provincial Assembly Asghar Hayat Hiraj and Chaudhry Zia-ur-Rehman said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, public welfare projects were being implemented at a rapid pace. They added that the Electric Green Bus Service was a landmark initiative for Khanewal and that bus operations on additional routes would also be launched soon.
