MIRPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th May, 2026) Four police officials, including a sub-inspector, were dismissed from service in Mirpur on Thursday after a viral video allegedly showed them assaulting a local citizen in public, officials said on Wednesday. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mirpur, Khurram Iqbal, ordered the dismissal under the Efficiency and Discipline Act 1992 over what he described as misuse of authority and police violence.

According to an official order issued by the SSP office, those dismissed included Sub-Inspector Shabbir Ahmed, Constable Imran Khan No. 110, Constable Ghulam Abbas No. 240, and Rangers Police Constable Zubair Ahmed No. 314, all posted at Police Station Thothal. The order stated that the officials were removed from service with effect from May 13, 2026, before noon, under Section (B) of the E&D Act. The line officer was also directed to collect all official records and equipment issued to the dismissed personnel and submit a no-objection report to the SSP office.

The action followed circulation of a video on social media showing a police vehicle chasing a white car in Sector F/2 of Mirpur on the night of May 12.

According to the inquiry, the car collided with another vehicle coming from the opposite direction before stopping. The video allegedly showed police personnel dragging a man out of the vehicle and beating him in public. Authorities later confirmed that the police vehicle involved belonged to Police Station Thothal and that the dismissed officers were on board at the time of the incident.

The SSP said an immediate oral inquiry was conducted, but the officials failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for their actions. The order stated that even if the occupants of the car had been wanted in a criminal case, the police were required to proceed through lawful means. The document described the officers’ conduct as an abuse of authority, negligence in duty, and an act that brought disrepute to the police department. It added that the officials had humiliated the family travelling in the car and damaged public confidence in law enforcement, warranting strict departmental action.
