GB polls: IPP, ITP begin negotiations for electoral cooperation

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th May, 2026) In the upcoming elections of Gilgit Baltistan, Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) and Islami Tehreek Pakistan (ITP) have reached to an understanding for different Constituencies of GB.

In this regard, a meeting was held between Quaid-e-Millat-e-Jafaria Allama Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi and Central President Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party Abdul Aleem Khan. The central and provincial leaders from both parties were also present during the meeting, said a press release issued on Friday.

Both sides agreed to continue consultations through future meetings in order to further strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation in Gilgit-Baltistan. Quaid-e-Millat-e-Jafaria Allama Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi and IPP President Abdul Aleem Khan emphasized that politics based on unity and harmony is the need of the hour. They also held detailed discussions on the current political landscape and the possible electoral situation in Gilgit-Baltistan, exchanging various proposals and suggestions. President IPP Abdul Aleem Khan stated that Gilgit-Baltistan possesses immense resources for development and improvement, adding that this naturally beautiful region can be transformed into the “Switzerland of Pakistan.

In his remarks, Allama Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi welcomed Abdul Aleem Khan and said, In Sha Allah we will sit together and address the matters concerning Gilgit-Baltistan. He expressed satisfaction over the joint political efforts and both sides agreed to continue dialogue and consultations. Representing Islami Tehreek Pakistan were Central Leaders Shabbir Ali Meesami, Arif Hussain Wahidi, Zahid Ali Akhundzada and Syed Sikandar Abbas Advocate while the Central Leaders of Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party were Mian Khalid Mahmood, Rana Nazir Ahmed Khan and Muhammad Shoaib Siddiqui attended the meeting.

Immediately after the meeting, a formal session was held between the two Parties regarding Preliminary electoral matters in Gilgit-Baltistan. Representing Islami Tehreek Pakistan were Shabbir Ali Meesami and Zahid Ali Akhundzada while Mian Khalid Mahmood and Rana Nazir Ahmed Khan represented the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party. During the meeting, participants reviewed the political situation in various constituencies in connection with the Gilgit-Baltistan general elections scheduled for June 07.
