Health experts have emphasized that global research and teamwork are essential for ensuring quality healthcare, while adopting clinical data and modern specialization has become the need of the hour

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Apr, 2026) Health experts have emphasized that global research and teamwork are essential for ensuring quality healthcare, while adopting clinical data and modern specialization has become the need of the hour.

These views were expressed during a Grand Clinical Round Lecture held at Ameer-ud-Din Medical College (AMC) at Lahore General Hospital (LGH) on Friday. The seminar aimed to sensitize young doctors to modern medical requirements, global research trends, and international healthcare protocols.

On the occasion, Principal of Post Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI), Prof. Dr. Muhammad Farooq Afzal, highlighted that global medical research is indispensable for becoming an exceptional physician. He stated that continuous skill development and effective teamwork among health professionals are the cornerstones for providing quality medical facilities to patients.

Addressing the participants, US-based Pakistani physician and Program Director at South East Georgia Health System, Prof. Dr. Aftab Ahmed, said that medical success in the contemporary era depends on continuous research and Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM). He noted that Pakistani doctors possess immense potential but must understand the importance of clinical data and organize it according to modern scientific standards to gain international recognition.

Prof. Aftab Ahmed further added that teamwork is the fundamental pillar of the modern medical system.

He stressed that optimal patient care and treatment of complex diseases are only possible when experts from various departments work under a coordinated strategy. During the session, he also provided a detailed overview of the American medical residency system, its admission procedures, and the prevailing research culture in the United States.

Speaking to the media, Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal urged junior doctors to move beyond traditional treatment methods and achieve excellence in clinical research and specialized fields. He reiterated the mission to transform PGMI and AMC into research-based institutions where patient data is recorded according to international standards to effectively meet future healthcare challenges.

The event also featured a question-and-answer session where medical students and doctors inquired about the US healthcare system and professional growth opportunities. At the end of the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal presented a commemorative shield to Prof. Dr. Aftab Ahmed in recognition of his academic and professional contributions.

The ceremony was attended by a large number of faculty members including Prof. Tayyaba Gul Malik, Prof. Khurram Saleem, Prof. Nazish Saqlain, Prof. Amna Khanum, Dr. Muhammad Ilyas, Dr. Javed Magsi and Dr. Abdul Aziz, along with young doctors, nursing officers, and medical students.
