Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Friday assured that concerns related to girls’ education would be conveyed to relevant authorities
PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Apr, 2026) Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Friday assured that concerns related to girls’ education would be conveyed to relevant authorities.
He said this during a meeting with a delegation of young education champions led by Blue Veins Programme Manager Qamar Naseem.
The delegation highlighted a range of challenges faced by girls across the province, including shortage of educational institutions, lack of basic facilities in schools, and limited provision of hygiene kits and stipends, which they said largely remained confined to claims.
They also pointed out that implementation of the "Halka Basta Act" was almost negligible, while stressing the need for greater societal attention towards serious issues such as harassment.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that although most of the issues fell under the provincial government’s jurisdiction, he would take up the concerns with relevant quarters.
He termed the situation alarming and underscored the need for urgent educational reforms and rehabilitation of schools.
He said that the higher education sector in the province was under the provincial government, with 26 universities currently functioning, but facing acute financial constraints. Timely payment of salaries to teachers had also become a major challenge, he added.
The Governor further identified shortage of staff, lack of facilities, and recruitment based on recommendations instead of merit as key factors contributing to the system’s inefficiencies.
“These challenges are serious but not insurmountable. Our children are talented and represent our future, and we must make collective efforts to guide them in a positive direction,” he said.
