MIRPUR (AJK) , (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point news - 5th May, 2026) The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government moved to address the long-standing rehabilitation of additional shelterless families affected by the Mangla Dam project, AJK Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore has said.
Speaking to a gathering of dam-affected residents in Mirpur, Rathore said his administration was fulfilling a commitment made by late President, Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry to provide land ownership to homeless sub-families.
“Our government is not here to enjoy power but to serve the people and address their problems through practical steps,” he said, adding that allotment of land to affected sub-families was underway.
The prime minister was addressing a public meeting during his visit to distribute plot allotment orders to affected families in New City Mirpur.
Senior civil and political officials, along with hundreds of affected residents, attended the event.
Rathore said his government had prioritised public welfare since taking office, claiming progress on service delivery and governance over the past five months.
He also said the political system had stabilised within six months and pledged to complete ongoing development projects during his tenure.
Highlighting the sacrifices of Mirpur residents displaced by the Mangla Dam, Rathore said his government was implementing agreements reached with an action committee representing the affectees.
He announced that funds would be allocated in the upcoming budget for the upgradation of New City Stadium and New City Hospital.
