ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Apr, 2026) Secretary General of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Muhammad Humayun Khan on Thursday said that April 23, observed globally as World Book Day, is a day to pay tribute to the power of books, pens and knowledge.
In his message on the occasion of World Book Day, he said developed societies are built on the foundations of education, reading habits and intellectual awareness.
Humayun Khan said a book is not merely a collection of pages but a reflection of civilisation, consciousness, history and the future. He added that only an enlightened nation can guarantee strong democracy, a stable economy and sustainable development. He said the PPP has always considered the promotion of education, knowledge and awareness as a fundamental part of its politics.
The PPP leader said Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto played a historic role in promoting public awareness and education in the country.
He said PPP Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is committed to connecting the younger generation with education, research and modern knowledge.
Humayun Khan said that the importance of books has not diminished in the digital age, but has instead increased further. He said books teach depth of thought, tolerance, research and perseverance.
Humayun Khan stressed that promoting reading habits among the youth is the need of the hour, adding that libraries should be revived and love for books should become part of the national culture. He said Pakistan must strengthen its bond with books in order to become a bright, enlightened and developed nation. “The real strength of nations lies not in weapons, but in knowledge, research and awareness,” he said, adding that love for books was in fact love for the future.
