IGP Sindh inaugurates 'Sindh Police Boxing Academy'

Inspector General of Police Sindh Javed Alam Odho on Friday inaugurated the 'Sindh Police Boxing Academy

KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Apr, 2026) Inspector General of Police Sindh Javed Alam Odho on Friday inaugurated the 'Sindh Police Boxing Academy'.

The boxing academy has been established at Police Headquarters Garden South in collaboration with the Sindh Police Sports board and Medicam Groups of Pakistan.

Additional IGP Karachi Azad Khan, Chairman Medicam Groups of Companies Khalil Nani Tal wala, political personality and Member of National Assembly Shehla Raza, Chairman of Sindh Police Sports Board and DIG Traffic Karachi Pir Muhammad Shah, AIG Welfare and other dignitaries attended the inauguration ceremony.

Addressing the ceremony, IGP Sindh Javed Alam Odho said that Police has produced athletes like Azhar Mahmood in cricket and other sports.

He said, 'I am confident that under the leadership of Pir Muhammad Shah, the Sindh Police Sports Board will regain its lost position.'

Odho said we will strive to resolve issues related to facilities for players on a priority basis.

He said that sports activities are integral to Sindh Police.

He further said that Sindh Police will continue to provide full support in terms of sponsorship, funds and basic facilities for players.

The IGP said that you have double responsibility, you are both athletes and police personnel and you should steer the younger generation away from drugs and towards healthy activities.

He said, 'I congratulate the Karachi Police, Sindh Police Sports Board and Medicam team.'

He hoped that the Academy will become Karachi’s premier boxing academy.

He said we will provide free coaching and classes here, along with character-building of children so that children can be kept away from drugs and encouraged toward healthy activities.

Additional IG Karachi Azad Khan on the occasion said, 'I pay tribute to the police officers and personnel, who sacrificed their lives for the peace of this city.

He said that after the restoration of peace, we are now taking the police towards the next stage of development.

The Additional IG Karachi said that physical fitness is an essential part of a police officer’s duties and these players are our face and representatives.

They will bring honor to Sindh Police wherever they will go.

He also thanked Medicam Groups of Companies for their cooperation in establishing the academy.

Chairman of Sindh Police Sports Board and DIG Traffic Karachi Syed Pir Muhammad Shah addressing the ceremony said that Sindh Police has produced national-level players in various sports in the past and later, a significant gap emerged due to increased professional responsibilities.

He said that Sindh Police became engaged in counter-terrorism and other challenges.

The Chairman Sindh Police Sports Board said that Sindh Police has re-entered sports activities in line with the leadership’s vision after 25 years and following sacrifices and martyrdoms.

Initially, boxing players had to travel to the Razzaqabad Training Center, which was quite far away, he said adding that Medicam Groups of Companies has built this boxing academy with modern facilities at Garden Headquarters.

Pir Muhammad Shah said we expect to see national boxing champions emerging from this academy in the near future.

He said that football, judo karate and other sports academies will also be established soon to promote sports.

He was of the view that globally, policing and boxing have a close association.

Shah said that boxing is promoted at the club level within police forces in the UK, USA and other countries.
