Karachi traffic police announces plan for Muharram

Karachi traffic police on Tuesday announced the alternative traffic routes on the occasion of main mourning processions on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 A.H

KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Jun, 2026) Karachi traffic police on Tuesday announced the alternative traffic routes on the occasion of main mourning processions on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 A.H.

The statement said that on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 AH (corresponding to June 24, 25, and 26, 2026), the main procession will commence from Nishtar Park and conclude at the Husainia Iraniyan Imam Bargah after passing through its traditional route.

The M.A.Jinnah Road will be closed for traffic from Gurumandar to Tower on the occasion due to security reasons.

As per the alternative routes for District Central, traffic coming from Nazimabad can proceed to their destinations via Nishtar Road and Garden from Lasbela Chowk. Traffic coming from Liaquatabad can turn left at Lasbela Chowk from Teen Hatti and proceed towards the Central Jail (Martin Road).

The route from Liaquatabad to Gurumandar will remain closed to traffic from 8:30 amto 9:30 am, on the 9th of Muharram.

Those traveling from Hasan Square to Peoples Chowrangi can proceed via Kashmir Road, the Society Light Signal (Shahrah-e-Quaideen), the Jail Flyover, Teen Hatti, and Nishtar Road (Lasbela Chowk).

According to the alternative routes for District East those traveling from Shahrah-e-Faisal to Shahrah-e-Quaideen (Noorani Kebab) and heading towards Numaish can turn right at the Society Light Signal on to Kashmir Road to reach their destinations.

Those traveling from the Central Jail Gate (Jamshed Road) towards Gurumandar and MA Jinnah Road can proceed to their destinations via Gurumandar, Bahadur Yar Jung Road, and Soldier Bazar.

The route from Jamshed Road to Gurumandar and Bahadur Yar Jung Road will remain closed to traffic from 10:30 amto 1:30 pm, on the 9th of Muharram.

As per the alternative Routes for District South, those traveling from the Garden Zoo to MA Jinnah Road can turn right at Uncle Samirya towards Gul Plaza and left towards the Coast Guard.

The alternative routes for Heavy Traffic : all heavy commercial traffic intending to travel from the Super Highway or Gulberg towards MA Jinnah Road will be diverted from Liaquatabad No. 10 towards Nazimabad Chowrangi No. 2.

This route will proceed via the Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road, and Sher Shah to Mari Pur. The same route will be used for the return journey.

All heavy commercial traffic entering the city from the National Highway will be allowed to proceed via Shahrah-e-Faisal or Rashid Minhas Road, Stadium Road, Sher Shah, Sulaiman Road, Hasan Square, Liaquatabad No. 10, Nazimabad Chowrangi No. 2, Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road, and Sher Shah to Mari Pur. The same route will be used for the return journey.

All types of light and heavy traffic will not be allowed to proceed past Gurumandar Chowk towards the procession route. All such traffic will be diverted towards Bahadur Yar Jung Road and Soldier Bazar.

The entry of all types of vehicles on MA Jinnah Road is prohibited, except for those displaying a procession participation sticker on their windshield. Vehicles with stickers participating in the procession will be allowed entry via the Shahrah-e-Quaideen Society Light Signal.

As per the routes for participants of procession, the mourners coming from Nazimabad: Lasbela, Gurumandar, Numaish.

Liaquatabad, Teen Hatti, Jahangir Road, Gurumandar to Numaish. Society Light Signal to Numaish. Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Gulshan-e-Iqbal, University Road, Old Sabzi Mandi, Kashmir Road, Society Light Signal to Numaish.

All vehicles participating in the procession to distribute Sabeel, Niyaz, or Tabarruk will enter the procession at the entry points located at Saddar Dawakhana and the Capri Light Signal. Parking of any kind will not be allowed on the main procession route.
