Major HESCO crackdown on electricity theft in Mirpurkhas, millions recovered, multiple FIRs registered

MIRPURKHAS, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Apr, 2026) A large-scale crackdown against electricity theft was formally launched in the HESCO Mirpurkhas Circle on April 24 under the leadership of Superintendent Engineer Ameer Ahmed Memon.

The operation targeted illegal connections, overloading, and recovery of outstanding dues across Mirpurkhas, Digri, and Umerkot divisions.On the first day, HESCO teams disconnected hundreds of direct connections, removed transformers, and took down meters.

According to a HESCO spokesperson, the operations were carried out by Direct Support Unit teams, SDOs, and Executive Engineers in coordination with police and Rangers.

In Mirpurkhas Division, supervised by Executive Engineer (XEN) Amjad Sheikh, 104 illegal connections were removed and 403 meters of cable were confiscated.

Six transformers were disconnected and 28 meters were removed.

Two FIRs were registered, naming accused Munawar, Mudassir, and Liaquat Rajput.

Teams recovered Rs 3.92 million in outstanding dues and collected Rs 210,000 under advance detection bills. In Digri Division, under XEN Zafar Solangi, teams removed 24 illegal connections and seized 185 meters of cable.

One transformer was disconnected, and accused Mir Sajjad was nominated in an electricity theft case. Rs 1.235 million was recovered, while letters for four additional FIRs were submitted to police.

A separate Digri operation removed 46 more illegal connections, confiscated 190 meters of cable, and took down four transformers and 17 meters, with three FIRs registered and Rs 887,394 recovered.

In Umerkot Division, led by XEN Ali Raza Bhatti, operations resulted in 53 illegal connections removed and 545 meters of cable seized. One transformer was disconnected and one FIR was registered against accused Hari s/o Ravio Malhi, with Rs 1.615 million recovered.

In another action, 27 illegal connections were removed, 270 meters of cable seized, 12 meters taken down, and Rs 862,711 recovered.

In Mirpurkhas city, 23 illegal connections were removed, 300 meters of cable seized, and Rs 345,000 recovered.According to FIR details, cases were registered at multiple police stations: Mir Ashraf at Jhudo Police Station; Hari Malhi and Ramesh at Umerkot Police Station; Munawar and Mudassir at Satellite Town Police Station Mirpurkhas; and Liaquat Rajput at Mirwah Gorchani Police Station.

Superintendent Engineer Ameer Ahmed Memon told APP that all operations were conducted peacefully with no law and order issues.

He said the drive aims to eliminate electricity theft and recover dues, with no leniency to be shown. He appealed to the public to refrain from electricity theft and cooperate with HESCO by paying dues on time.
