Online internship programme launched to connect PU students with ASEAN universities

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Apr, 2026) The Punjab University (PU) organised a launching ceremony of an 'Online Internship' programme in collaboration with ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries to enhance academic and professional linkages, here on Wednesday.

The event was attended by Indonesian Ambassador Lt. Gen (r) Chandra Warsenanto, Thai Ambassador Rongvudhi Virabutr, Philippine Ambassador Dr. Emmanuel Fernandez, Malaysian High Commissioner Dato Muhammad Azhar Mazlan, Brunei Darussalam High Commissioner Colonel (r) Kamal Basha, Myanmar Ambassador Wunna Han, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali, Director Career Counseling and Placement Center Dr. Fauzia Hadi Ali, officials from ASEAN embassies, and university faculty members.

In his address, Indonesian Ambassador Lt. Gen (r) Chandra Warsenanto said the visit aimed to strengthen ties with students. He noted that 78 Pakistani students studied in Indonesia on scholarships last year, while a large number of Pakistani students are currently enrolled in various ASEAN countries.

He said the online internship programme would further promote academic and cultural relations between Punjab University and ASEAN member states. He also praised Pakistani peacekeepers, saying he had worked alongside them in UN missions and found them “fearless, brave, and highly trained.”

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali said the university aims to connect students of ASEAN countries with PU youth, adding that cooperation in science and technology is vital in the present global environment. He said efforts are underway to promote joint degree programmes and collaborative research projects between scientists, teachers, and students. He also expressed gratitude to the ASEAN Community Islamabad for initiating the programme.

The online internship initiative is expected to provide Punjab University students with opportunities to gain international exposure, learn online, and enhance their professional skills.
